House Wiring Cost in Ghana
What actually determines house wiring cost in Ghana: size, circuits, cable, rewire versus new build, and materials versus labour.
Everybody wants a figure. The honest answer is that anyone who quotes you one before seeing the house is guessing — and a guess that turns out low is how jobs stop halfway.
What is useful is understanding what actually drives the number, so you can read a quote properly and tell a fair one from a bad one.
What drives the cost

- The size and quality of cable each circuit requires
- Whether it is a new build or a rewire of an occupied house
- How much chasing into walls and making good is involved
- The distribution board, breakers and protective devices

- Testing and certification at the end
New build versus rewire
Wiring a house before the walls are closed is straightforward: the routes are open and the work is fast. Rewiring a finished house is a different job. Cable has to be threaded through existing structure, walls chased and repaired, and the household worked around.
The same size of house can therefore cost very differently depending on which situation you are in. That is not a quote being inflated — it is genuinely a different amount of work.
Materials and labour are two different questions
Roughly speaking a quote covers materials and labour, and they behave differently. Materials have a market price you can check yourself — cable, breakers, boards, sockets are all listed on this site with the shops that sell them.
Labour reflects skill, time and responsibility. A licensed electrician carries qualification that was assessed, and work that can be inspected and certified. That is what you are paying for, and it is the part where the cheapest option is most often the most expensive in the end.
Why the cheapest quote is often not the cheapest job
Undersized cable is cheaper. Fewer circuits are cheaper. Skipping earthing is cheaper. Leaving out testing and certification is cheaper. Every one of those savings is invisible on the day the work finishes, and every one of them is expensive later — sometimes very.
If one quote is far below the others, the useful question is not "why are they cheap" but "what is in the other quotes that is not in this one".
How to get a real figure
Have a licensed electrician see the property. Ask for the quote to be broken into materials and labour. Ask whether testing and a certificate are included. Then compare like with like.
